Internet security in China – Get a VPN for your Mac
Get a VPN for your Mac in China! For us Mac users who are located in China, you may want to consider getting a VPN not only to protect your privacy against prying eyes of the Chinese government, but also all of you to unblock blocked sites. If you tried to access sites like Facebook, YouTube, or blogs, and some servers were blocked, your Internet activity can be controlled by the Chinese govt. Your Mac in China may not be safe! Get a VPN for your Mac in China!
I am using 12vpn, and even with a vpn I still get DNS cache poisoning. DNS poisoning occurs when you try to access blocked sites inside the firewall and you get great "tag". Then, even with a vpn to your Mac, you can not access websites blocked without flushing your DNS (fairly easy to do, but still annoying). Imagine what else the gov't can do with that kind of power!
Without a VPN to your Mac in China, you are missing out on a lot. Not only YouTube videos and your favorite blogs are inaccessible, but also things like what your friends and family can be difficult to follow when you can not access Facebook. If you're in the news world, most of the articles on China are blocked or slowed because of controversial content. Sometimes there is simply no reason to. I had my site Chess blocked for a few days and if google never get out of China, who knows if our gmail will still be accessible! Many Mac users have chosen VPN not only to keep their information secure, but also keep in touch with family and friends and keep up with the latest news and entertainment from the West!
If you are looking for a VPN to your Mac I suggest 12vpn. I am using their service lite which has some limitations, but I think its great. Firstly it is the cheapest. Only about 20 kuai per month (conversion rate of 2010). 12vpn is ideal for Mac users in China – the hours of office are based on HK time so I guess its based in HK. Anyway, it is good to have a VPN that is just for those of us falls within Firewall great.
They just have a few options available to the extent that plans vpn go, but that makes it easy to decide what to buy! Lite and Personal, Mac and PC are their basic features. However, they have a very large number of supported platforms, including iPhone and iPod IPAD. Android Linux and some other devices, I've never heard of are also available. Imagine what it would be cool to be sitting on the Bund in Shanghai IPAD check with your friends on Facebook!
Many VPN services out there are targeted toward Windows users, because after all, it is still most used the platform there, but Mac users VPN needs China too! 12vpn has a rating of great customer support and even their own troubleshooting wikipage!
